Our current stable:
- Sunny. Quarter horse gelding, 15.1 hands, chestnut.
Past career: trail horse. At 29 years, Sunny is Horseplay's
elder statesman, and he's looking good! One of our riders
refers to him as "you handsome devil," and while his
nature tends more towards the angelic, we heartily agree
that he's a handsome fellow!
- Farina. Connemara mare imported from Ireland, 14.1h,
flea-bitten gray. Past career: eventing pony. Twenty-five
year old Farina has been with the program for approximately
10 years. She finds it difficult to concentrate if she
detects carrots nearby.
- Indy. Quarter horse mare, 15.1h, paint. Past career:
western pleasure and ranch work. The newest addition to
the Horseplay stable, Indy is an18-year-old who is fitting
in nicely with our herd and the program. More than a few
people were happy to have a more colorful addition to our
stable!
- Hillary. Oldenburg mare, 16.2h, flea-bitten gray.
Past career: Competitive hunter-jumper and second-level
dressage horse. Before joining Horseplay, Hillary was
easily clearing jumps four feet high! At 19 years old,
her patient nature makes her a wonderful therapy horse.
- Cinnamon. Quarter horse mare, 14.2h, chestnut. Past
career: Jill of all trades. 17-year-old Cinnamon joined
Horseplay in 2007 and is quite a character. If you hear the
sounds of splashing water, it's probably Cinnamon preparing
to take a drink. If you hear nickering, it's probably
Cinnamon asking for a treat!
- Tia. Arabian mare, 14.2h, chestnut. Past career: backyard
horse. A registered purebred, eight-year-old Tia may
be our cutest equine. She's willing and calm, and loves
people!
- Dude. Appendix quarter horse gelding, 16.3h, dark bay.
Past career: pleasure and backyard horse. Dude provides
the height and stability we need for our taller riders. He's
12 years old and has a great disposition.
- Deetz. Quarter horse cross gelding, 15.2h, bay. Past
career: Racetrack pony horse. He's a patient nine-year-old
who gets along with everyone—people and equines alike!
All the horses have been free-leased to the Horseplay program.
Of course safety is our primary concern, and we screen many horses before deciding which horse will be perfect for our program. Naturally the Horseplay horses are extra special in that they are comfortable around the props we use during sessions and are calm no matter what is happening around them.
